The Lion orchestra (The Tay and The Nung ethnic group)

Update at 10/01/2010 09:08

The Lion Dance is a very popular dance in the festival and New Year ceremony to send wishes to each family.

The Lion Dance of the Tay and the Nung ethnic group is the festival dance including bowing, greeting, lion’s giving birth, table jumping, martial-art performing and fishing, etc. Percussion instruments with high intensity, such as drum and cymbals, are used to accompany the Lion Dance.

The sudden inspiration of the orchestra while playing is very important for making a good performance. The drummer must follow closely the dancing movements to create suitable rhythm in time. The better is the drummer in harmony with the cymbals, the more interesting the lion dance becomes.
