Court dance is folk dance, which was methodically improved and reached high level. The content is usually about praising feudal king and mandarins’ merits or heroic legends of mandarins and high-ranking civil and military court officials... Court dance is a scholarly and professional art.
There are 10 works of Vietnamese court dance existing nowadays:
- Múa lục cúng/Six worship dance (a typical buddhistic dance of Viet ethic group)
- Múa bát dật/Bat dat dance
- Múa tam tinh chúc thọ/longevity wish dance of 3 wandering spirits
- Múa bát tiên hiến thọ/longevity wish dance of 8 fairies
- Múa Trình tường tập khách/ Guests Welcoming dance
- Múa Đấu-Chiến-Thắng-Phật/Combating and winning Buddha dance
- Múa Tứ linh/The four supernatural creatures dance
- Múa Nữ tướng xuất quân/woman general’s troops dispatching dance: perform on occasions like triumphal ceremonies, National day, banquets, welcome party to envoys
- Múa Quạt/Fan dance: in banquets, marriage feasts of queen, royal concubines, princess
- Múa Lục triệt hoa mã đăng/Luc triet hoa ma dang dance.

Court dance is accompanied on instruments such as: Bell (bronze), musical stone and bronze, castanet with coins stringed, cymbals, large drum, small drum, tiểu bồng drum (one-face drum), cylindrical drum (trống yêu cổ - trống cơm), Đàn Cầm (five of sevenstringed lute), Đàn Hồ and Đàn Nhị (Vietnamese two-chord fiddles), Đàn Nguyệt (Moon-shape lute), Đàn Sến and Đàn tam (kinds of Vietnamese lute), Đàn Tỳ Bà (Chinese 4-chord lute), Đàn Tranh (16-chord zither), horn (horizon), flute (vertical).
