Clappers

Update at 10/01/2010 13:25

Clappers are of the percussion instruments of Việt people.

Apart from the name of sênh sứa, they have the name of cặp kè.

Clappers have the lonzenge shape made of two old bamboo pieces with the length of about 16 cm and the width of about 4.5 cm. Clappers produce the clangorous and cheerful sound.

Performance technique: The performer holds the pair of clappers in his hand so that the back sides of clappers lean on each other. The player often plays two pairs of clappers holded in two hands.

With skillful hands, he sometimes opens hands, closes hands, and vibrates fingers. Furthermore, he sometimes closes one hand and opens another so that the back sides of clappers strike each other to create the tune and attractive sound effect.

Clappers are used in Xẩm orchestra with the bamboo temple block, which produces simple and harmonious sounds.
