Chien drum

Chien drum belongs to striking branch of membranophone family of Việt majority. Its frame is made from wood of 34 cm height.

Surface is made from buffalo skin. Stick is also made from wood. When playing, Chiến drum is fixed on a stand. Instrumentalist takes stick to beat on surface to produce sounds which are strong, sonorous and animated.

Chiến drum is used in ritual orchestras. Especial it is indispensable instrument in Tuồng orchestra. Chiến is played to gather rhythm, to end or open a sentence.
