Bong drum is a membranophonic musical instrument of slapping branch of the Viet majority.

Frame of the drum is made from wood, 44 cm high, and smallish in the middle. Bong drum has only one surface of 21 cm diameter that is covered with python leather.

Around the frame, there is a system of rattan snares that function to stretch or lose the drum surface. When playing, drummer uses his hands to slap on the surface producing 2 sounds, one bass, and one tenor. Bong drum gives dim and less sonorous timbres.

Bong drum is usually played in the Dai nhac or Royal Great Orchestra, in stage theatres including Tuong (Classical Drama), Cheo (Popular opera), or at processions or during festivals. Bong drummer usually coordinates playing the drum with dancing.
