This was announced at a press conference held on July 9 by the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology.
It is the first time this kind of event has been organised simultaneously in two different cities in a non-European country.
On the themes of ‘Music and Minorities’ and ‘Application of Ethnomusicology’, the two symposia will feature 30 working sessions with 76 speeches to be delivered by 85 researchers, including 70 foreign scholars from 31 countries around the world.
Delegates will focus their discussion on the role of music in sustaining minority communities, the preservation of performing arts and the importance of performing arts in social dialogues and education.
Highlight on the agenda will be a joint meeting to be held from July 25-26 at the World Heritage site, Halong Bay.
The events will also bring the opportunity for Vietnam to introduce the beauty and potential of its traditional music to the world.
| Established in 1947 in London, the ICTM is a non-governmental organisation in formal consultative relations with UNESCO, serving as link to the traditional music of all countries. Vietnam joined the ICTM in 1991 and has been recognised as a full member since the establishment of the Vietnam National Committee for Traditional Music in 2002. |
