Trong Ly- a unique flower bud of music

Update at 23/02/2010 15:05

Born in 1987, Le Cat Trong Ly is one of the most talented singer-songwriters in Vietnam at the moment.

It has been long since music lovers have had a chance to enjoy music from a young and attractive singer cum songwriter with a highly expressive voice.

Le Cat Trong Ly is still a student at the Ho Chi Minh Music Conservatory, but she has been performing various songs composed by herself, which have captured public’s attention.

Songs like ‘Chenh Venh’ (Tottery), ‘Nghe Toi Ke Nay’ (Listen to me), ‘Mua Yeu’ (Season of Love), ‘Troi Oi’ (Oh My God) and many others have earned her various titles, including ‘Song of the Year’ Award, ‘Young Composer’ Award at the Vietnam Music Award 2008.

Early this year, Ly impressed the audience when she used her guitar like a professional musician and her beautiful singing at the final night of the Vietnam Music Award presentation.

Many people were impressed when they first hear the song ‘Tottery’, because they could not imagine how such a young singer and songwriter with a baby face like Ly could have written such a romantic piece with such a cool content of an experienced person.

Many other songs by Ly contain her own style, full of life experience in their simplicity and honesty. Traces of the traditional music genre can also be found here and there in Ly’s modern songs.

Ly also made a good impression on the audience with her performance with French artist, Francis Cabrel, who has possessed over 30 years of experience in his musical activity. Chances have bought these two artists from two different cultures and different generations to come together, yet their joint performance seemed being blended, flawlessly, enjoying the encores from the audience.

Born in Da Nang and studied in Ho Chi Minh City, Ly has to live away from her homeland and family to follow her ambition. Behind a slim body and baby face is a burning ambition of an artist’s dreams. Ly has been studying and able to use the violin, the guitar, the piano, and is still studying more and more to perfect her skills.

Having had some good songs that have been recognised by the public, Ly is still very modest about her self. She is silently but vigorously looking for an artistic path of her own in a serious and professional manner. The first album she is nurturing promises to be a good start for her bright future.
