The traditional art is a open topic with various forms such as literature, music and fine arts, etc. The traditional art (a traditional culture) is a part of the national culture.

If China is famous for the type of the art, namely “Kinh kich” (Chinese opera theatre) and Japan is typical of “Kich no” (Japanese traditional art), Vietnam is well-known by “Cheo” (a traditional operetta), “tuong” ( a classical drama), “cai luong”( reformed theatre) become famous.

Vietnamese people lived on water-rice agriculture in old years. Therefore, “cheo”, “tuong”, “cai luong” have become spiritual values that serving people’s demand in the past due to a slow lifestyle of the predecessors in the feudal period.

Nowadays, people have quickly tried to catch up with a modern lifestyle adapting to the new things. Therefore, lifestyles in the west have a strong influence on Vietnamese people, especially the youth. Accordingly, the traditional arts seem difficult to maintain its position and meet people’s demand in the period of industrialization and modernization.

There are many forms of art nowadays with many various styles that attracts to the audience. People can forget the form of the traditional art. Therefore, maintenance and development of the traditional arts is an essential thing.

In detail, it is necessary to store the form of the art through building some living museums and theatres. The State has a responsibility for maintaining life of the artists and art teams. Moreover, the artists also try their best to improve their skills from one generation to other generation. It is a responsibility as well as awareness of the artists for maintenance and development of the traditional arts.
